As the 2008 cricket season rapidly approaches I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to Copley Cricket Club. In terms of history we have been an active part of village community life in Copley for many generations. In 2005 we celebrated our 125th Anniversary Year and all told the club has won the Halifax League 1st Division Championship 15 times and the Parish Cup 5 times. Our aim is to continue to be one of the premier cricket clubs in Calderdale but, at the same time, to maintain our long standing reputation as a friendly, family orientated club. On the playing side we are proud to have produced some of the best teams and some of the most talented junior players in the area for many years. In addition to our three senior sides (two play on Saturday and one plays on Sunday in the Halifax Cricket League) we are particularly proud of our thriving junior section. The development of our youngsters continues to be a top priority. We are a Yorkshire Cricket Board Focus Club and have been awarded Sport England’s Club Mark accreditation. This means that we have met all the necessary criteria as to playing programme; coaching; child protection; sports equity and ethics and club management and that we continue to provide a high quality and welcoming environment for young people in sport. In 2008 we improved our facilities and built three new all weather cricket nets. This has enabled us to provide better coaching and practice facilities for all our junior members. Senior practice nights, during the summer, are on Tuesdays and we are starting the season with a Senior Section "Signing On" night on Tuesday 15 April. Our Junior section “Signing on” night will be on Wednesday 16 April. If you are interested in joining the club we look forward to seeing you then - whether this be as a player or as a social member. We have a thriving Social Committee and hold social events throughout the year. Team Captains and members of the Committee will be only too happy to talk to you further about all aspects of the club on that evening, or indeed at any time. As far as the Junior Section is concerned, practices take place at the club every Sunday morning during the season (between 10.30am – 12.00am). These are run by qualified ECB (Level 1 and Level 2) coaches and new members are always welcome – just come along and see what we do. We are a member of the Halifax Junior Cricket League and run teams in the U9’s, U11’s, U12’s, U13’s, U15’s and U17’s age categories. In the 2008 season, our U11’s team won the Leagues inaugural Collinson Cup competition and our Under 17s team won the League title. We welcome parents/guardians to all training sessions and competitions and would like to invite you to our usual Pre-Season Junior Section “Signing On” night on Wednesday 16 April, commencing at 7.00pm. We are looking forward to seeing you during the season, and if you would like to find out more please do not hesitate to contact me.
