26th July vs Outlane (A) Copley U17's (73 all out) lost to Outlane U17's (76-1) by 9 wickets.
Week 12 of the U17's season saw Copley away to Outlane. After a wet day when the game was looking in doubt earlier in the afternoon, Copley batted first and started steadily before losing Jake in the third over, Liam (11) in the fifth and Tom in the sixth with the score on 17 for 3. A brief partnership between Freddie and Brad took us to 27 in the tenth over before Freddie fell, with Josh also falling in the same over. Dan joined Brad and together took the score to 35 before Brad himself fell (12) which brought Kai to the wicket. Dan departed in the fifteenth over, followed closely by Chris which brought Chandler to join older brother Kai with the score on 55 with just 3 overs remaining. A spirited partnership between Kai and Chandler saw the score increase to 73 before Chandler (12) fell on the final ball of the eighteenth over, and with the unfortunate Karl run out at the beginning of the ninteenth over, Kai remained not out with 17 as the innings closed at 73 all out.
In reply, Freddie and Kai kept things quiet for the first 5 overs (including a run out in the fourth over) before a flurry of boundaries from the home team's number three batsman (who retired on 50 in the eighth over, and proved to be the difference between the two sides) saw the scoreboard rattle up to the required total in under 10 overs.
2nd August vs Barksland (H). Copley U17's (106-7) lost to Barkisland U17's (119-8) by 13 runs.
Week 13 saw Copley at home to Barkisland in the third 2010 meeting between these two sides.
Electing to field first, Freddie and Liam got the team off to a great start with two wickets apiece (including a catch by Tom off Freddie) in the first 5 overs, the home team under pressure at 21 for 4. Inevitably a partnership began to haul Barkisland back into the game, but still the Copley bowlers managed to contain the home team. Liam (who finished with the fine figures of 3 for 18 off his five overs) struck again in the tenth over via the first of two fine catches in the game by Josh. James and Brad maintained the pressure during the final ten overs, James claiming a scalp with his very first ball - a catch to Freddie. With James conceding just 23 runs from his five overs, and Brad claiming two scalps, Barkisland finished their innings with a total of 119 for 8.
Sadly, Copley lost Liam in the first over of the reply, but with Brad and Freddie carefully building a partnership, the scoreboard was taken to 38 before Freddie (16) fell in the sixth over, to be follwed by Brad (16) two overs later with the score on 44. Jake and Tom carefully took the score up to 61 before Tom (13) fell in the fourteenth over, bringing Josh to the wicket who continued the progress towards the target. The loss of Jake (10) in the seventeenth over brought Chris into the action who with fine strikes added valuable runs with Josh, bringing considerable nervousness to the home team as Copley edged ever closer to the 119 target. Chris fell for a fine 17 (top scoring for Copley) in the penultimate over, and with the home team managing to bowl two very tight final overs, Josh (10 not out) and Dan (3) brought us to just 13 short of the target.
This was a very fine batting display by the Copley middle order batsmen, Jake, Tom and in particular Chris and Josh, taking us to within a few runs of a strong Barkisland side's total after a difficult start to the innings. Credit must also go for a good all round bowling and fielding display.
